How we research gear
Last updated: June 30, 2026
Our promise
We label research as research, and hands-on as hands-on. Today, almost everything on DeskVerified is research-based: we synthesize manufacturer specs, verified buyer reviews, and professional measurements, then tell you what that adds up to. When a product moves into hands-on testing, we’ll label it clearly and show you the work. We never fake it.
Where the information comes from
- Manufacturer documentation and spec sheets — cross-checked, not copied from marketing copy.
- Verified buyer reviews across retailers, weighted toward recurring complaints rather than the five-star average.
- Independent measurements and long-term reviews from established outlets, where available.
- Stated warranty, return window, and support terms.
How we score
Each product is judged on what matters for its category, not a generic checklist. A chair is scored on lumbar support, adjustability, build, and value over years — not “comfort” in the abstract. A monitor is scored on what actually changes a workday: panel type, ergonomics, color accuracy at the price, and connectivity. We favor the product that solves the real reason you’re shopping, not the one with the best ad copy.
How we keep it fresh
- Every guide shows its last-updated date at the top.
- When a better option ships, the old pick gets replaced — or the guide says exactly why it hasn’t.
- Discontinued products are removed, not kept alive for the link.
What this method can’t do
Research-based picks are strong on consensus and specs, weaker on the subjective “how does it feel after six months” question. We’re honest about that limit, and we’re working toward adding hands-on testing over time. If a purchase decision has real ergonomic or health stakes, we’ll point you toward trying before committing where possible.
Why you can trust it
Because the model only survives if the rankings are useful. The day we start ranking for commission is the day readers leave and the income stops with them. Our incentives and yours point the same direction. See also our affiliate disclosure and about page.
